About the Scholarship Awards

The Midwest Geobash Golden Flamingo Scholarship was created in 2021 by longtime MWGB attendee, and former planning team member Chris Baker (Team Shydog). The idea behind the Golden Flamingo Scholarship awards is to recognize and support Midwest Geobash attendees with their dreams of furthering their education. Each year our scholarship trustees review many scholarship applications and choose the year's recipients to be awarded at our annual event's closing ceremony at Midwest Geobash.

Scholarship applications open in April each year, with the winners being determined and notified by email with the expectation that they be present at the event's closing ceremony to receive their award.

When applications are open, the application form will be available at the bottom of this page.

Support the Scholarship!

You can support our Golden Flamingo Scholarship Awards by purchasing a limited edition Golden Flamingo Pathtag from our event merchandise store in the main menu.

All pathtags are created by a generous donor who made the pathtags for us to sell and sustain our scholarship fund.

As there is no overhead cost for us on tag production, all revenue from the tags sold goes directly into the scholarship fund for future scholarship awards. Our goal is to sell enough tags to cover two $250 scholarship awards each year and fund the scholarship awards in perpetuity.

Consider buying one (or a few!) of this years tags to support the fund!

Trustees and Donors

Chris Baker (Team Shydog) - The Golden Flamingo Scholarship was created in 2021 by the generosity of Chris Baker and his desire to give back to the attendees at Midwest Geobash. Chris has previously served as a member of our MWGB Planning team for many years, and has been a longtime bash attendee and volunteer. Chris is one of our scholarship trustees who reviews the numerous applications submitted, determines awards, and presents the winners with their award at our closing ceremony.

Laura Elliott (Ladylights of LightPeople) - Laura is one of our trustees who manages the scholarship application process, recipient selection, and presentation of awards at the closing ceremony. Laura is another long-time MWGB attendee and volunteer who served as our volunteer coordinator for many, many years.

Susan Stoker (TankHounds) - The trustees are excited to announce the most amazing matching grant to our Golden Flamingo Scholarship program! New York Times and USA Today best selling author Susan Stoker has generously offered to match our scholarships this year! You may know Susan as Mrs. Tank Hounds, a long time Geocacher and Bash attendee. Many of you have traded Pathtags with Susan in the past. Before she turned her passion for writing into a career she was known as Dr. Susan Stoker PhD. Susan understands the value of higher education and training, and wants to help her fellow Bashers achieve their educational goals. We welcome and greatly appreciate Susan’s generous donation to the Golden Flamingo Scholarship fund.
Thank you Susan!
